Player of the Week candidates for Jan. 30 - Feb. 4

This week's winner

Marshall Murphy, Roseville. The senior goaltender stopped 44 of 45 shots to finish with a .978 save percentage in a 2-1 win over Tartan.

The other candidates

Seth Cushing, Red Wing. The senior forward scored three goals in a 4-3 win over Albert Lea. Cushing's final goal was the game-winner and came with less than five minutes remaining in the third period.

Matt Fitzgerald, Bemidji. The junior goaltender recorded his third shutout of the season, stopping all 39 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over St. Michael-Albertville.

Ryan Gale, Apple Valley. Gale recorded a hat trick in a 5-4 win over Hastings. The junior forward scored his third goal 5 minutes, 36 seconds into the third period, which proved to be the game-winner.

Jack Jensen, Eden Prairie. The sophomore forward scored No. 1-2A Eden Prairie's first three goals in a 4-3 win over No. 2-2A Edina.

Nick Mattila, Ely. Mattila tallied three goals in a 4-1 win over Bagley/Fosston. The sophomore forward netted Ely's first goal in the first period, and then scored twice in less than a three-minutes span in the third.

Trey Nelson, Marshall. The senior goaltender made 37 saves in a 1-0 win over Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato, recording his fourth shutout of the season.

Brett Reed, Northern Lakes. The sophomore forward scored all five goals for Northern Lakes in a 5-2 win over River Lakes. Reed scored his first goal 20 seconds into the game and completed the hat trick less than five minutes later.

Ben Ward, Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake. Ward recorded a hat trick in a 4-3 win over Chisago Lakes. The junior forward scored all three goals in the third period, helping his team rally from a 2-1 deficit.

Tyler Wencl, Owatonna. The junior forward accounted for all of Owatonna's goals in a 3-2 win over Northfield. He netted a power-play goal in the first period and tied the game with an unassisted goal in the third. Wencl also scored game-winner in overtime.
