• Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake is one of several Class 2A-size cooperative programs that have successfully petitioned to play down in Class 1A. The three schools in the co-op have a combined enrollment of 1,909. The Class 1A cutoff is 1,198. Monticello was a Class 1A program before it was bumped up to Class 2A in 2002. In the ensuing 14-year stretch of big-school hockey, it never advanced past the Section 8 quarterfinals. The Moose lost those quarterfinal games by a combined score of 140-7.

• “Pray for Cade, Play for Cade” has been the season-long rallying cry for St. Cloud Cathedral. Student manager Cade Anderson, was diagnosed with cancer last fall. “At the beginning of the year they found a lump under his arm,” Brown said. “He’s been battling.” Brown said Anderson, a sophomore, drew the biggest cheers when championship medals were being awarded to the Crusaders after they defeated Alexandria 3-2 in the Section 6 final. “Even Alexandria, as disappointed as their players were, gave him a stick tap,” Brown said. Anderson’s brother, James, is a Crusaders junior forward.

• Follow the action: Adult tickets are $17 for championship and $12 for consolation sessions. Student tickets are $11 for championship, $8 for consolation. All championship-round games will be televised on Ch. 45 and streamed live at Prep45.com for a charge of $9.95 per day (four-day pass costs $23.97). Beginning Thursday, all winners-bracket games in both classes can be heard on AM stations 660 and 1440. Both championship games can be heard on 100.3-FM.
