A look at who - and what - stood out from Thursday's action.

Holtgrewe

Three Stars

1. Jake Holtgrewe, Moorhead, F: Got the Spuds going with a goal early in the first period and finished a plus-3 in efficiency rating. Teammates awarded him player of the game honors, a white hard hat.

2. Isaiah DiLaura, Lakeville South, G: Outshot 17-4 in the first period, the Cougars got the performance they needed from their junior goaltender. He made 16 saves as Lakeville South weathered No. 2 seed St. Thomas Academy’s early flurry and built confidence for an eventual upset victory.

3. Nick Leivermann, Eden Prairie, D: The Notre Dame-bound defenseman took a draw from teammate Casey Mittelstadt and sneaked a sinking shot through traffic to score what proved to be the game-winner with 1:22 left in the Eagles’ 3-1 victory over Wayzata.

By The Numbers

1 -- Goals scored by Eden Prairie defenseman Noah Deraney, who had not scored all season until getting the game-tying goal on a deflected slapshot at 10:31 of the third period against Wayzata.

198:38 -- Minutes and seconds that passed between the goal Moorhead goaltender Lance Leonard allowed in the regular-season finale and the one Hill-Murray scored in the second period Thursday. Leonard shut out all three section opponents.

1,600 -- People on the waiting list for season tickets to the boys’ hockey state tournaments. According to Minnesota State High School League Associate Director Rich Matter, about 4,100 people have season tickets, with a renewal rate higher than 95 percent.

38,836 -- Thursday’s paid attendance for the Class 2A quarterfinals, with 18,295 for the afternoon session and 20,541 for the evening games.

Quote

“It’s kind of a glorious experience. A lot of glamour and glare that takes away the focus on the game.”

-- Lakeville South forward Cory Checco on playing at the X
