First Report

The High Performance Seniors of Sections 4&5 scored four goals in the first half en route to a 5-2 victory over the HP 18's of Sections 7&8 in the championship game of the Ted Brill Great 8 Festival at Doug Woog Arena in South St. Paul.

Matt Jennrich of Centennial scored two goals for the Seniors, with Jarrett Cammarata and Justin Kelley (both of Maple Grove) each adding a single goal in the first half.

Hill-Murray's Emmet Nath tallied the final goal of the game late in the second half for the Seniors.

Moorhead duo Carter Randklev and Jack Stetz scored one goal apiece in the loss for the HP 18's.

Winning the Ted Brill Great 8 championship may not carry much in the way of substance, but the Seniors of Sections 4 and 5 celebrated on Sunday afternoon as though they’d captured gold at Lake Placid.

Helmets, gloves and sticks flew into the air as the horn sounded the Sections 4&5 victory over the HP 18’s Sections 7&8 squad, after the seniors cruised to a 5-2 victory at Doug Woog Arena in South St. Paul.

According to Emmet Nath, who led the festival with six goals, the postgame jubilation was orchestrated by a St. Paul Academy forward.

“Jack Johnston,” Nath said with a grin. “That was all on him.”

The celebration came on the heels of Sections 4&5 scoring four unanswered goals in the first half, including two by Centennial's Matt Jennrich.

Jennrich may have scored twice, but he was hesitant to let loose in the victory festivities.

“I was kind of against it at first,” Jennrich admitted. “But once everybody started doing it, I just (joined in),” Jennrich said.

In addition to Jennrich’s two goals and Nath’s one tally, the Maple Grove tandem of Jarrett Cammarata and Justin Kelley added a single score each for Sections 4&5.

Carter Randklev and Jack Stetz, both of Moorhead, scored for the HP 18's Sections 7&8.

With Nath’s and Jenrich’s high school careers concluded, both players expressed an appreciation for an extra chance at impressing scouts from each rung of the next level.

“It’s another good chance to perform in front of them,” Nath said.

Both players expressed a desire to play next season in the North American Hockey League.

“I’m planning on playing next year,” Jenrich said.

“Hopefully I impressed some people and get some calls.”
