Former Minnehaha Academy coach hopes to leverage the Stars' past state tourney success.

Pat Griswold, who posted a 78-71-4 record in six seasons as head coach of the Minnehaha Academy boys’ hockey team, was named the new head boys’ hockey coach at the Academy of Holy Angels on Monday.

Griswold, a Minnehaha Academy graduate who played at Augsburg College, guided the Redhawks to a 17-10-0 record last season, tieing the school record for victories in a season. Minnehaha Academy lost 4-3 to Totino-Grace in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Section 4 playoffs.

He takes over a Holy Angels team that went 6-17-3 last season, including a 5-0 quarterfinal loss to Cretin-Derham Hall in the Class 2A, Section 6 playoffs. Holy Angels won state Class 2A titles in 2002 and 2005 and made three other trips to the state tournament in the late 1990 and 2000s (1999, 2003, 2004). The Stars, however, haven’t won a section playoff game since 2010.

“The big thing is getting some excitement around the program,” said Griswold, who replaces Trent Palm as the Stars’ coach. “We need to continue to bring in quality student athletes. Kids who truly believe we can win state titles again.”

Terra Rasmussen, an assistant coach at the Academy of Holy Angels last season, was named the Stars’ girls’ hockey coach on Monday.

"We are really excited to be moving the hockey programs forward together with these two great coaches,” said Holy Angels Athletic Director Michael Kautzman in a media release. Both Terra and Patrick are bringing their experience of established careers as players and coaches along with the positive energy that will help us continue to grow our programs.”
