Three third-period goals assures Red Knight victory.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Nate Schweitzer scored the game's first three goals and Jerome Newhouse set up the last three as Benilde-St. Maraget's remained unbeaten in Metro West Conference play with a 7-2 win over Chanhassen.

Schweitzer, who had three career goals entering the game, notched his second of the season while the Red Knights were on the power play, taking a backhand pass from Joe Collins across the slot, before ripping a shot over the glove of Storm goalie Josh Weyandt, eight minutes into the contest.

Despite a 20-0 advantage in shots on goal in the first period, it was the only goal BSM would get in the opening 17 minutes, but they rectified that less than two minutes into the second period when he picked up a loose puck inside the Chanhassen blueline before skating into the left faceoff circle and potting his second goal.

He became the first BSM defenseman to record a hat trick since Nick Austin, versus Chanhassen, Jan. 30, 2016, when he scored on the power play at 4:49 of the second period.

Dylan Hoen then added the first of his two goals four minutes later for a 4-0 Red Knight lead and BSM seemed poised to run away with the game.

Chanhassen changed those thoughts late in the period when the Storm took advantage of a bad line change and Noah Gonzales' goal got the visitors on the scoreboard with 3:36 remaining.

Jerome Newhouse set up all three of the Red Knights' third-period goals.

Dylan Hoen contributed a pair of goals in the 7-2 victory.

With the game appearing to be heading into the second intermission with the Red Knights holding a three-goal lead, the Storm struck again as a long stretch pass led to a 2-on-1, which Preston Willier finished off with 4.4 seconds showing on the clock.

BSM began to put the game away when freshman James Callan found the back of the net with a shot from the left point during the Red Knights' fourth power-play chance of the game, 6:33 into the final period.

Just over three minutes later, Hoen restored BSM's four-goal lead with his fifth goal of the season and then, with 1:19 to play in the game, Matt Kocourek's shot from the left side hit traffic and found its way into the net, giving BSM four goals in five power-play chances on the night.

The Red Knights enjoyed a 56-15 advantage in shots on goal. Carson Limesand made 13 saves before giving way to Jonathan Vitelli, who played the final 3:49 in his varsity debut.

Up next for BSM is a Saturday matinee at Hopkins, which is slated to get underway at 3 p.m.
