It was another night of quality games in the High School Hockey League as the Hub takes a look at some of the highlights in last night's action.

#3 Centennial 8 Roseville 4
The Centennial Cougars opened their season with a wild 8-4 non conference victory over the Roseville Raiders. After taking a 4-3 lead to the locker room after two periods, the Cougars outscored the Raiders 4-1 in the third period. James Hughes scored two unassisted goals :42 apart to give the Cougars some breathing midwway through the third.   Jordan Lovick (2g-2a-4pts), Tyler Pitlick (2g-1a-3pts), and Hughes (2g) helped lead the Cougars. Joe Effinger had two goals to pace the Raiders who fell to (0-2). The Cougars are 1-0 and will face off next Thursday against Coon Rapids in Northwest Suburban Conference action. The Raiders will play hots to Stillwater in Suburban East Conference action next Thursday.

#9 Hopkins 8 Rogers 5
The Hopkins Royals rode the crest of the powerplay going 3-6 to defeat their namesake, the Rogers Royals, 8-5 in non conference play Thursday night. They needed the power play, or may have considered declining the penalties if they could, as Rogers scored two first period shorties by Tony Kunkel and Josh Provo. After trailing 3-1 in the second period, Hopkins rebounded with four unanswered goals.  It was Boyd (2g-2a-4pts), Archie Skallbeck (1g-3a-pts) and Seashore (2g-1a-3pts) that propelled Hopkins to their second straight win. Josh Provo's two goals led Rogers. Hopkins hosts North Metro Saturday night while Rogers takes to the road to play Maple Grove.
 
Northern Lakes Lightning 5 Detroit Lakes 4
Collin Burke broke a 4-4 tie with just :32 showing on the clock to propel his team to a tightly contested Mid State Conference game. Burke's goal was his second of the game and 3rd on the season. Cody Chambers had three assists for the Lightning and goalie Trey Flesh turned aside 35 shots in the victory. Tanner Lane had a goal and an assist while Travis Maristuen scored two goals for Detroit Lakes. Andrew Friesen was tested and busy all night in a solid effort as he took the loss in goal making 33 saves. Northern Lakes sits atop the confernece with a 2-0 record and Detroit Lakes fell to 0-1.

St. Michael Albertville 9 North Branch 2
The St. Michael Albertville Knights were not gracious hosts as they exploded for 6 second period goals enroute to their 9-2 victory over the North Branch Vikings. Tom Kessler notched the hat trick and added an assist for the four point night for the Knigths. Logan Schmidt also had a pair of goals to go along with two assists in the winning effort. The Knights had Zack Otts (2g-1a-3pts) and Taylor Christensen (1g-1a-2pts) also figured in the effort. Jarrett Sachs scored the Vikes lone goal in the second period as STMA swarmed North Branch goalie Nic Miller with 41 shots on goal. STMA improved to 1-1 on the season and North Branch fell to 1-1. The Knights square off with Buffalo in Mississippi 8 conference action this Saturday. North Branch hosts Meadow Christian in Chisago Saturday.

Lakeville North 4  Rochester Century  2
Taylor Saunders scored the game winning goal for Lakeville North at 3:57 of the third period to lift his team over Rochester Century by a score of 4-3. Both teams were effective with the man advantage as North was 2-6 and Century was 2-5. The goalies were busy as Matt Arentz turned aside 39 Century shots to preserve the victory. Cam Sellnow was sturdy in goal for Century making 26 saves in the game. Saunders and Brad Foster each had a goal and assist for Lakeville North. Tyler Anderson chipped in a goal and an assist for Century.
