Holy Family Catholic vs. Edina
at Plymouth Ice Center (Turkey Trot)
5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21

The Class 2A preseason rankings have not yet been released, but suffice to say Edina and Holy Family Catholic will be ranked in the top 20 when it is. And Edina could very well be No. 1, as the Hornets have won two consecutive state Class 2A titles.

This is a different Edina team, though, as it not only graduated many key seniors, but also lost juniors Kieffer Bellows (son of former North Stars’ star Brian Bellows) and Ryan Zuhlsdorf to the United States Hockey League. Both were expected to play key roles, but the Hornets should be fine. Coach Curt Giles knows how to prepare his team. Garrett Wait could explode in his junior season, while Dylan Malmquist is one of the Mr. Hockey favorites.

Holy Family Catholic could also crack the top 10 rankings, as Rahn has a deep returning lineup of talented players. John Peterson should push the rare 200-point plateau in his career with a good season. He’s a talented playmaker with great speed who makes the Fire engine run. Keep an eye on sophomore defenseman Matt Anderson, who has already verbally committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
