Detroit Lakes at Fergus Falls
2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22

Detroit Lakes versus Fergus Falls is a traditional grudge match between two northwestern Minnesota communities separated by 46 miles of U.S. Highway 59. There are no longer section implications (the Lakers are now in Class 1A, Section 8 and Fergus Falls is still in Section 6) or conference bragging rights at stake, but this matchup still tends to be a great game.

Detroit Lakes welcomes in new coach Todd Dwyer, who formerly coached at Breckenridge\Wahpeton and takes over for Chris Denardo. The Lakers have two of the most talented players in the area in lightning-quick junior Jon Richards and senior Ryan DeConcini. The duo combined for 49 goals and 113 points last winter and are expected to again put up big numbers.

The Otters are a veteran team that graduated just three seniors, although one was leading scorer Sam Rausch. Look for big seasons from rugged senior Kyler Peterson (the top returning scorer with 25 points) and super sophomore Peter Johnson, who had nine goals and 23 points in a surprise freshman season. He spent part of his summer with the USA Hockey Select 15 national camp in New York, a recognition of his skills.
