Benilde-St. Margaret's beats Elk River/Zimmerman

Chase Jungels scored his first two goals of the season, helping Benilde-St. Margaret’s defeat Elk River/Zimmerman 5-3 in a nonconference matchup at the Elk River Ice Arena on Saturday.

“Chase has been a skilled player for us since his freshman year, but he really looks like a man out there right now,” Red Knights coach Ken Pauly said. “He looks like a senior should look. He’s been impactful in everything that we’ve been doing this year.”

That impact can be attributed to Jungels’ offseason training, which focused on improving his speed and shooting.

Jungels’ lack of scoring was not evident when he played with Team Northeast in the Upper Midwest Elite Hockey League this fall. The forward had seven goals and 17 assists on the team that won the Elite League Championship title.

“It was a good experience,” he said. “It’s a grind, but its good exposure and playing against the top guys is an honor.”

Jungels hasn’t committed to a collegiate program and might opt to play junior hockey after high school.

Pauly said he expects Jungels should have a solid senior year for Benilde-St. Margaret’s, drawing more attention to the forward.

“I don’t think he’ll be a secret for long,” Pauly said. “I think you’ll see a new Chase Jungels this year.”
