St. Paul Academy at Mahtomedi
7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4

This is the first of two appearances for No. 16-1A St. Paul Academy (4-0-0) in our Top 10 Games of the Week, as the Spartans come out of the gates with a heavy schedule. This Thursday’s game at No. 5-1A Mahtomedi (1-0-0) could be a preview of the Class 1A, Section 4 final.

St. Paul Academy is a budding powerhouse and has won its first four games by a combined 20-6 score, three of those games were on the road.

The biggest surprise is sophomore forward Jack Johnston, who has already tallied seven goals - including at least one in each game - after scoring only one in his freshman year. Yet, he’s not even the leading scorer on the team. Matt Dahlseide takes that honor with five goals and eight assists for 13 points and Dev McCabe has a goal and nine assists for 10 points.

In contrast, Mahtomedi has had only one game, but it was an impressive one as the Zephyrs edged Class 2A Cretin-Derham Hall in a high-scoring affair, 7-5 last Saturday. Big junior Jack Becker recorded a hat trick and Sam Krawczyk had a goal and two assists.
