Breck at East Grand Forks
2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5

No. 1-1A East Grand Forks (3-0-0) certainly looks like the team to beat in Class 1A again this year, as the Green Wave have come out rolling past three tough opponents on the road, including a pair of victories over state tournament teams from last year, 6-4 over Totino-Grace and 6-2 over St. Cloud Cathedral.

The Green Wave may have more of that type of high-scoring game than last year, as they graduated four top defensemen but return their four leading scorers. Senior Dixon Bowen was expected to be a Mr. Hockey candidate and he’s played like one, scoring eight goals in the three games, including a four-goal outburst against Totino-Grace.

No. 3-1A Breck (1-1-0) also has designs on a state title after missing out on the tourney last year. The Mustangs are also likely smarting after a 2-0 shutout loss at Duluth Marshall last Saturday. Coach Les Larson’s squad generated 31 shots on goal, but couldn’t solve Hilltoppers’ goalie Alex Murray. It won’t likely get an easier at the East Siders.
