Buffalo at Moorhead
7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6

Old dog versus new? That could be the case this Saturday night when Buffalo (1-1-0) faces host No. 19-2A Moorhead (1-1-0) in a key Class 2A, Section 8 battle.

Moorhead and Roseau are the longtime bullies in the section, as they’ve combined to win every section title since 1996. The Spuds again look like strong contenders this year behind a stout defense and goaltender Jacob Dittmer.

The Spuds’ first two games, a 3-2 win at Minnetonka and 3-2 overtime loss at Blaine, could be representative of the low-scoring, tight games expected this year. Three Spuds have more than a point in the two games and two of them are defensemen: senior Will Borgen with three assists and junior Eli Johnson with two goals.

Buffalo followed up a disappointing 4-3 loss to Osseo in the season opener with an eye-opening 4-0 shutout at Brainerd last Saturday. Jerame Schuetzle had two goals and an assist against the Warriors, last year’s section runner-up, and Ben Zitur stopped all 31 shots for the shutout. Coach Aaron Johnson has a strong team in Buffalo and a win at Moorhead would be another big early statement for the Bison.
