Sartell-St. Stephen at Alexandria
7:15 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18

The Class 1A, Section 6 race may well go well beyond St. Cloud Cathedral this year. And it will be because of the seasons being put up by teams such as No. 18-1A Sartell-St. Stephen (6-0-0) and No. 17-1A Alexandria (4-0-1), who are among just a handful of teams statewide still without a loss.

Sartell-St. Stephen has allowed only 1.33 goals per game while scoring 5.5, with no margin of victory closer than two goals. Spencer Zwiener (7-9-16), Matt Moran (6-8-14) and sophomore defenseman Spencer Meier (1-10-11) have powered the Sabres’ offense, although nine players have scored at least two goals and 13 have at least two points. Sartell-St. Stephen is seeking its first state tournament berth, while Alexandria has four trips in total (the most recent in 2011).

The Cardinals have scored four goals in four of their five games, including a 4-4 tie with Section 6 rival St. Cloud Apollo. Alexandria also has a varied offense, led by Alec Wosepka (5-3-8) and Parker Revering (4-4-8).
