Edina at Wayzata
7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5

This is already the third meeting between these two teams this season, with No. 2-2A Edina (18-1-2) holding a victory and a tie over No. 8-2A Wayzata (10-9-2). The tie, which came in the Turkey Trot championship on Nov. 22 and does not count as a conference contest, is one of just three games the Hornets haven’t won all year (including a tie with Minnetonka on Dec. 29 and a loss to No. 1-2A Lakeville North on Dec. 4).

In the tie, Wayzata’s Hank Sorensen (12-4-16) scored midway through the third as the Trojans overcame a 2-0 first-period deficit. Nathan Dingmann (9-13-22) tallied twice for Wayzata, while Matt Masterman (19-10-29) had a goal and two assists for Edina.

In the more recent meeting on Jan. 17 at Edina’ Braemar Arena, the Hornets scored twice in each period to overwhelm the Trojans 6-3. Garrett Wait (21-35-56) recorded a hat trick, and Dylan Malmquist (19-37-56) had two goals and an assist. While the score was more lopsided, the shots were not. After holding a 33-18 lead in the first meeting, the Hornets had just a 23-18 edge in the second game.
