Prior Lake at Farmington
3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7

Call it "The Battle of the Overlooked." No. 16-2A Prior Lake (14-6-1) and No. 18-2A Farmington (14-7-0) tend to be forgotten with the state's top two teams residing in their respective sections, and the Lakers and Tigers have tough roads ahead.

Prior Lake starts its playoffs in two weeks in Class 2A, Section 2, which is dominated by two-time defending state champion No. 2 Edina. The Lakers have won six straight games and sit in second place in the South Suburban Conference behind Lakeville North.

Farmington calls Section 1 home, which counts unbeaten and top-ranked Lakeville North within its ranks. The Tigers are 2-4-0 in their last six and tied with Burnsville for fourth place in the South Suburban, trailing Lakeville North, Prior Lake and Lakeville South.

The two teams played at Dakotah Ice Center in Prior Lake on Jan. 3, with the Tigers claiming a 2-1 victory. Hayden Maxfield (18-8-26) gave the Lakers the lead just over 3 minutes into the first period, but they didn’t score again on Farmington goalie Gage Overby (10-6-0, 2.54, .892). Erik Holmstrom (4-18-22) and Benton Olson (4-4-8) scored for the Tigers.
