Freshman Ben Helgeson scored two of Hill-Murray's four goals Saturday as the Pioneers persevered their way to a 4-3 road victory over Burnsville.

Playing at the Burnsville Ice Center, the Blaze took advantage of first-period power plays to build a 3-1 lead before Hill-Murray, ranked No. 5 in the Class 2A coaches' poll, began to get to work.

Helgeson scored the team's first two goals, one in the first period and the other in the second to cut the deficit to one. With less than seven minutes to play in the second, junior forward Emmet Nath scored the equalizer to send the teams to the third tied 3-3.

With a little less than seven minutes left in regulation, Austin Peterson scored an even-strength goal that would stand up as the game-winner as the Pioneers faced a furious Blaze power play in the final minute of regulation.

Helgeson, an addition to Hill-Murray after moving south from Roseau, is listed at 6-foot and 185 pounds and appeared to be right at home centering the team's second line.

The Pioneers have a challenging week ahead, with home games against No. 9-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's on Thursday and No. 8-2A Wayzata coming to Aldrich Arena on Saturday.

Burnsville will get a week of practice before returning to competition, but things won’t get any easier for the Blaze as No. 2-2A ranked Edina comes to Burnsville Ice Center Saturday for a game at 7 p.m.
