Minnetonka at St. Thomas Academy
7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5

In a matchup between two schools just on the edge of a Class 2A top-10 ranking, St. Thomas Academy and Minnetonka should provide another entertaining nonconference showdown between two elite metro programs.

The No. 11-2A Cadets are swiftly off to a 2-0 start with wins over Rosemount (4-3) and Academy of Holy Angels (5-0).

In the shutout of the Stars, St. Thomas Academy put up 63 shots to the Holy Angels’ 11 while getting goals from five different players. Only senior forward Billy Jerry has more than one goal, with two. Jerry is coming off an Upper Midwest High School Elite League season in which he scored 10 goals in 21 games.

Minnetonka is off to a 1-1 start after a weekend trip to Duluth over the Thanksgiving holiday break. A 5-2 loss to No. 3-2A Grand Rapids kicked off the season before the No. 12-2A Skippers bounced back to defeat Duluth Marshall 3-2 on Nov. 28.

A trip to No. 16-2A Holy Family on Friday awaits Minnetonka before it faces St. Thomas Academy, making for a challenging start to the season for the Skippers.

Senior forward Brenden Skarda leads the team with two goals. Skarda tallied 10 a year ago and is the top returning scorer.
