White Bear Lake at Hill-Murray
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8

It’s rivalry week, if only for a day, in St. Paul's northern suburbs as longtime foes White Bear Lake and Hill-Murray face off for the first time this season.

The No. 20-2A Bears were undefeated before tripping up at Roseville in a 2-1 loss on Saturday. At 3-1, White Bear Lake is off to a strong start and looking to build its momentum.

The Bears haven’t defeated the Pioneers since recording an upset victory over the then top-ranked Pioneers in the Class 2A, Section 4 final on March 5, 2011. White Bear Lake's previous victory over Hill-Murray was on Nov. 23, 2004.

Still, this game is usually a hotly contested one regardless of the records. Three of the last four matchups have been decided by a goal.

The No. 4-2A Pioneers are smarting after a tough three-day stretch that left them with a losing record. First, No. 3-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s came to Aldrich Arena and left with a one-sided 5-1 victory. Then No. 9-2A Wayzata shut out the Pioneers 2-0 on Saturday, sending them into the second week of December with a 1-2 mark.
