Eden Prairie at St. Thomas Academy

Eden Prairie lost for just the third time this season Saturday night when streaking Minnetonka upset the Eagles at home 4-3 in overtime and avenged a previous loss by the same score to its Lake Conference rival in last month’s Schwan Cup Gold Division championship.

Eden Prairie (13-3-0) gets a chance to step out of conference and section play for two games, starting with St. Thomas Academy on Tuesday in Mendota Heights.

The No. 3-2A Eagles have been one of the most consistently good teams this season, led by perhaps the two best forward lines in the state.

Junior center Casey Mittelstadt, a Gophers commit, has 16 goals and 39 points through 16 games, while Nolan Sullivan (14-17-31) and Notre Dame commit Michael Graham (12-19-31) each have more than 30 points for the season.

The No. 13-2A Cadets (9-5-3) have found themselves on the short end of a series of one-goal games against some of the state’s top teams.

Since the start of the Schwan Cup on Dec. 28, St. Thomas Academy has tied or lost to No. 7-2A Edina (1-1), No. 15-2A Wayzata (1-1)‚ No. 1-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s (L, 5-3), No. 5-2A Mahtomedi (L, 2-1) and No. 10-2A Hill-Murray (L, 1-0).

Senior forward Billy Jerry leads the Cadets with 15 goals and 28 points through 17 games.
