Wayzata vs. Breck
7:15 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10

Breck took Wayzata to overtime before falling 2-1 at Plymouth Ice Center last year. Both teams went on to reach the Class 1A and Class 2A state championships, respectively, with Wayzata taking home the title. However, the Mustangs and the Trojans have not shown that same kind of state-tournament pedigree early this season.

After stumbling to Lakeville South and Delano to start the new season, Breck has regained it footing with a 6-0 victory against Rochester Lourdes on Dec. 3.

Senior forward Mitch Machlitt has been the top scorer for the No. 4-1A Mustangs (1-2) with four goals.

Wayzata (1-3) is still a bit of a mystery entering the second week of December. The Trojans began by dropping two games at the Turkey Trot Tournament they hosted in late November, then split their next two: a huge 5-1 win over Hermantown on Dec. 2 and a 2-1 loss to Duluth East a day later.

Offensive production has been sluggish for No. 11-2A Wayzata, but improvement may be coming as the Trojans' young roster continues to take on expanded roles week by week.
