Stillwater at White Bear Lake
3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14

Vadnais Sports Center hosts this important east metro matchup between Class 2A, Section 4 and Suburban East Conference rivals Stillwater and White Bear Lake.

A win for White Bear Lake could really shake things up in league standings and section seeding process, opening the door a bit wider for the Bears and Hill-Murray.

Stillwater, however, shows no signs of slowing down. The Ponies (12-0, 7-0) seem to have no weaknesses on paper and boast a plus-4 goal differential (5.50 for to 1.50 against), as well as a power play hitting at 42 percent.

Forward Noah Cates (12-19-31) consistently delivers offense for No. 1-2A Stillwater, averaging a goal per game, and fellow senior Matthew Stanton (10-13-23) has also notched double-digit goals this season.

White Bear Lake has shown to be good but inconsistent, capable of skating up or down to the level of its opposition. The Bears (7-3-2, 4-2) went head-to-head with Edina (3-3), Hill-Murray (1-1) and Blaine (3-4) before falling to Woodbury 3-1 on Saturday night.

Juniors Chase Hamstad (9-12-21) and Max Jennrich (12-5-17) have produced points for White Bear Lake, accounting for over half the team’s goals this season (21 of 41).
