Breck at St. Paul Academy
7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26

Thursday night at Drake Arena in St. Paul is round two for this Independent Metro Athletic Conference clash between a pair of Class 1A’s top teams.

St. Paul Academy (13-2, 2-1), has won four straight games, a stretch that dates back to the Spartans 3-2 loss at Breck on Jan. 7.

The No. 4-1A ranked Spartans’ goals for (5.67) and allowed (1.60) ratio is indicative of their all-around impressive play. Individually, senior Matt Dahlseide (20-24-44) leads the team in all three top offensive categories and Devlin McCabe (18-17-35) is also producing regularly for the Spartans.

Breck (11-3-2. 4-0) appears to be in the driver’s seat for the IMAC title, especially after wins earlier this month over top contenders Minnehaha Academy and St. Thomas Academy.

After starting the season 0-2, the No. 2-1A Mustangs have lost just once, a 5-3 result against St. Michael-Albertville on Dec. 20. Breck's special teams has been strong, converting at 31 percent on the power play and killing 87 percent of its penalties.

Breck has three players with double-digit goal totals for the season. Mitch Machlitt (18-12-30), Carter Breitenfeldt (12-22-34) and Austin Heidemann (11-12-23) accounting for over half of Breck’s offensive production.
