Duluth East vs. Elk River
3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4

This is the only regular season game between the two teams expected to compete with Grand Rapids for a top seed, or ultimately a Class 2A, Section 7 championship.

Duluth East (12-5-1, 1-0) rides a four-game winning streak into the week, as the Greyhounds’ offense continues to grow and is averaging 4.5 goals per game in January.

The No. 12-2A Greyhounds do not have a superstar to rely on. Instead, things get done by committee at the offensive end, where eight players have between five and 10 goals. Junior forward Garret Worth (10-10-20) leads the team with 20 points.

Elk River enters the week looking to rebuild its mojo after losing to Centennial (5-1 on Jan. 14) and Hill-Murray (4-2 on Jan. 24). It started rebounding with a 6-1 victory over Anoka last Thursday, win that could be the start of another run for the No. 5-2A Elks (15-4, 7-1).

The Perbix brothers continue to lead Elk River in scoring. Senior Nick Perbix (6-21-27) is the top points producer from the blue line, and sophomore Jack Perbix (13-12-25) is the top goal scorer.
