Edina vs. Minnetonka

3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10

Edina’s dominant 8-2 victory over Lake Conference rival Minnetonka on Jan. 25 thrust the Hornets to the top of the league standings and the Class 2A rankings.

The Hornets were motivated to avenge a 5-2 nonconference loss to the Skippers in the Schwan’s Cup Gold Division quarterfinals on Dec. 26, and neither team will need to be spurred to win when they meet for a third time on Saturday, especially with the conference crown up for grabs.

The No. 1-2A Hornets (21-1, 5-0) can clinch the title by completing the sweep of the No. 4-2A Skippers (17-2-2, 3-1-0), who look to deal Edina its first league loss of the season and win their other two league games to stay in the hunt.

The Hornets haven’t loss since the Schwan Cup. They've won 13 straight, including a 20-0 throttling of Hopkins last Saturday. Minnesota commit Sammy Walker (25-28-53) continues to pace Edina this season.

Since falling to Edina, Minnetonka has seen its offense return and outscored competition 19-7 while winning three straight. Jack Bayless (14-20-34) has tallied eight points during the streak.
