Instead of featuring the traditional Mahtomedi “M” — the same styled “M” associated with the University of Minnesota and used by Minnetonka and Moorhead high schools — the new sweaters are emblazoned with a squarer “M” in a bolder font, similar to the University of Michigan’s “M.”

The new look sweaters harken back to the first set of uniforms purchased for the 1955-56 season, but they also included a purple stripe on the sleeve to commemorate those initial hand-me-down jerseys.

“The surprise for me is the ‘M,’” Poeschl said. “Since I’ve been here, Mahtomedi hockey has been associated with the Minnesota ‘M.’ ”
