When Let’s Play Hockey decided to name Minnesota's top modern-era programs using the final rankings for each season dating back to 1993-94 for an article published on Nov. 21, 2018, the publication's number crunching calculated a surprising result in Class 1A. Just behind tradition-rich programs from Breck, Hermantown, Warroad, Blake and Totino-Grace — with 12 state titles between them — was Mahtomedi, a metro-area public school with just over 1,100 students tucked in between White Bear Lake and Stillwater.
