Just a sophomore when he turned in one of the most transcendent performances in tournament history, stopping 37 shots as the Rockets defeated Edina East 4-2 in the 1977 championship game. Helped JM reach two more tournaments, including a rematch with the Hornets in 1979 (Edina won 4-3 in overtime as Butters made 35 saves).
