Mahle’s wicked backhand shot confounded tournament goaltenders in 1956 and 1957 as he scored 11 goals while leading the Broncos to title games both years. He scored a tournament-best seven goals in 1957 as International Falls won the first of its six championships under legendary coach Larry Ross.
