Kittson Central vs.

St. Paul Johnson

3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11

Calvin Hanson and his teammates from tiny Hallock — located way, way, way up in the northwest corner of the state — are making the 400 mile trek to the Twin Cities, allowing curious non-partisan high school hockey fans to get a look at both the state’s goal-scoring leader and one of the state’s handful of remaining one-loss teams.

Kittson Central, the high school located in Hallock, is listed by the Minnesota State High School League as having a grade 9-12 enrollment of 57. A good portion of that number suit up for the hockey team.

Hanson, who has one five-goal game, two four-goal games and three hat tricks, leads the state with 25 goals and tops the Bearcats (9-1-0, 3-0-0) with 39 points.

St. Paul Johnson (9-3-0) was recently announced as the subject of this season’s Fox Sports North “Dream State” documentary series. Junior Blayde Pogreba no doubt will get plenty of air time — he leads the Governors with 16 goals.
