Duluth Denfeld vs. Alexandria

7:15 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7

The top six teams in Class 1A have been all but impenetrable, especially against other small-school programs. Sitting squarely in the group just outside that “Magnificent Six” are No. 7-1A Duluth Denfeld and No. 8-1A Alexandria.

Denfeld (16-4-1, 1-2-0) has won 11 of its last 13 games, and is getting superb goaltending from junior Jacob Snyder, whose .939 save percentage and 1.59 goals-against average places him among the state leaders in both categories.

Alexandria (13-7-0, 8-2-0) has lost three of its last five contests, and Saturday’s game against the Hunters caps a rugged four-game week that includes road trips to Fergus Falls and Brainerd. Senior Caleb Strong leads the Cardinals in goals with 16 and points with 33.
