Perham vs. Esko

7:15 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21

Finn Diggins and Charlie Rasmussen were role players a year ago when Perham breezed through the regular season, winning 24 of 25 games and advancing to the third-place game at the Class 2A state tournament.

This season, Diggins and Rasmussen are leading the Yellowjackets' charge, as Perham (20-0, 9-0) is one of four teams left in the state with an unbeaten record.

The No. 6-2A Yellowjackets face Esko on Tuesday in what might be the biggest remaining threat to an unbeaten regular season, as the Eskomos (15-6, 3-0) have spent time in the Class 2A rankings this season.

The matchup could also be a preview of a state tournament game, with both Perham (Section 8) and Esko (Section 7) seeking return trips to the Twin Cities.

Diggins, a 6-foot-5 junior, averages 20.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game, while Rasmussen, a senior, averages 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Senior Elijah Morris (11.7 ppg) also contributes.

Esko gets offensive production from seniors Payton Wefel (22.5 ppg), James LeGarde (20.4 ppg) and Trevor Spindler (13.2 ppg).
