He’s attended many of the state’s most memorable games, including the fabled 1969 state championship between Edina and Henry Boucha-led Warroad. He was at the St. Paul Civic Center for Apple Valley’s marathon five-overtime state semifinal victory over Duluth East in 1996, too.

“Big Mike” is distinctive among the Fab Five for wearing his trademark white Minnesota Wild hoodie and willingness to spark up a conversation with anyone within earshot. He also helps keep the daily text count in triple digits by firing out a stream of what he calls “Nite Owl Hoots” when most of the others in the group are fast asleep.


Mike Olson’s superfandom began while attending Edina High School, where he earned the nickname Mr. Hockey. Now this prolific texter is known as Big Mike.
