Swanson, 61, wasn’t exposed to high school hockey while growing up in Appleton, Wisconsin. After moving to Minnesota, he remembers being wowed by Ben Marshall, the former star defenseman for Mahtomedi.

“He was the first high school player that I saw that made my jaw drop,” Swanson said.


Swanson was wowed by Minneosta high school hockey after moving from Wisconsin. His son WIll was the starting goaltender for Mahtomedi at the 2015 Class 1A state tournament.
