Edina is the No. 1 seed in the Class 2A boys' hockey state tournament while Mahtomedi drew top seed in the Class 1A tournament next week at Xcel Energy Center.

The Hornets, winners of nine state championships as Edina and three more as Edina East, have been ranked No. 1 in the state Class 2A coaches' poll for most of the second half of the season. They suffered their only losses to Chaska and Hill-Murray and defeated tournament qualifiers Eden Prairie (three times), Moorhead, St. Thomas Academy, Lakeville South and White Bear Lake.

Mahtomedi, making its 11th state tournament appearance, has never reached a championship game. The Zephyrs' finished the season ranked No. 2 in the state Class 1A coaches' poll and beat tournament qualifiers Greenway and St. Cloud Cathedral in the regular season.
