Brady Riesgraf enjoys hunting, fishing and camping.

He is an outdoorsman. And a hockey player.

Riesgraf’s mix of passions, when it came to deciding where to attend college, made Bemidji State a natural attraction.

“We loved the campus, how it sits right on the lake,” said Riesgraf, a former Holy Family Catholic defenseman who recently accepted a scholarship offer to play for the Beavers. “We’ve been looking at a lot of great schools, but Bemidji State was kind of what my heart said was the right place. I really like the feel of an up-north school.”

Riesgraf was one of the state’s top-scoring defenseman last season with 17 goals and 39 assists in 56 games. He is believed to be the first Fire player in the 10-year history of the program to receive a Division I scholarship.

“I’m glad I can put Holy Family on the map in that standard,” Riegraf said about being a Division I pioneer for the private school in Victoria. “The coaching staff has it going in the right direction. Hopefully they have a lot more guys coming out of there playing Divison I hockey in the future.”

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Riesgraf was Holy Family Catholic’s top scorer last season as the Fire went 14-11-1, losing to Delano 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Section 2A playoffs. He is playing for the Fargo Force in the USHL this season.
