Top games: Lakeville South, Rosemount have the south suburbs buzzing

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.






Other games to keep an eye on

Thief River Falls vs. Warroad, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. Grant Slukynsky, who shares the state scoring lead with 18 points, has helped propel Warroad (5-0-0, 2-0-0) to No. 2 in the Class 1A rankings, granting the Warriors favored status against longtime Class 1A, Section 8 foe Thief River Falls (3-3-1, 1-0-0).

Blake vs. Wayzata, 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. Can either of these teams make a run in the talent-laden Class 2A, Section 6 playoffs? No. 6-2A Blake (4-2-0, 2-2-0), led by Joe Miller and Jack Sabre (four goals apiece) must figure a way to break through Wayzata (2-3-0, 0-0-0) and its typically airtight defense.

St. Thomas Academy vs. Benilde-St. Margaret’s, 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11. The state’s lone scheduled game on Wednesday night, here’s your chance to scout Benilde-St. Margaret’s standout defenseman Nate Schweitzer (two goals, six assists) and St. Thomas Academy star forward Jackson Hallum (three goals, six assists).
