Top performer winner

Michael Doshan, Mound Westonka. Doshan, a sophomore forward, recorded a season-high six points during an 11-1 defeat of Rochester Lourdes on Dec. 7. He produced his second consecutive two-goal effort and added four assists, including one on the power play. Earlier in the week, he scored twice and added an assist in a 7-2 win at Southwest Christian/Richfield on Dec. 5.

Top performer candidates

Ryan Booth, La Crescent-Hokah. The senior goaltender faced 98 total shots between two games last week during a 5-3 win against Black River Falls on Dec. 3 and a 3-2 loss to Mora/Milaca two days later. Booth made 43 saves against Black River Falls — and a season-high 49 against Mora/Milaca.

Zach Bruns, Morris/Benson Area. The junior forward recorded hat tricks on back-to back nights as the Eagles defeated Bagley/Fosston 8-0 on Dec. 6 and Red Lake Falls 7-2 the next day. Against Bagley/Fosston, Bruns scored his first goal on a power play midway through the first period and followed with his second goal just 20 seconds later. He assisted on a goal in the second period then completed his hat trick with his final tally in the third period.

Matthew Gleason, Cretin-Derham Hall. Gleason accounted for nine points in the Raiders’ two wins last week. The Raiders won 7-0 against Mounds View on Dec. 5 and 6-1 against Woodbury on Dec. 7. The senior forward scored two first-period goals against Mounds View and added four assists, including two on power plays. Against Woodbury, Gleason scored once and tallied two assists, one on the power play.

Kyle Heffron, Totino-Grace. The senior forward produced four point games in two wins for the Eagles last week, first recording a goal and an assist in the first period and again in the third in the Eagles’ 9-1 defeat of Anoka on Dec. 5. Two days later, Heffron led the Eagles’ 6-3 victory over Breck, scoring four goals.

Josh Koziol, Elk River/Zimmerman. The Elks have started their season 2-3, but Koziol, a senior goaltender, has kept his team in every one of those losses — all one-goal games. On Dec. 5, Koziol backed a 5-1 win against Rogers, making 36 saves. On Dec. 7, he made 53 saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to Centennial, including 12 during overtime.

Kyle Kulevich, Tartan. The senior goalie earned a 2-1 victory over Thief River Falls on Dec. 6, making 40 saves and posting a .976 save percentage. Kulevich and the Titans had a perfect 6-for-6 penalty kill.

Jake Lee, New Prague. The senior forward scored his first goals of the season in the Trojans’ 4-2 victory at Mankato West, where he recorded a hat trick. Lee notched his first goal in the second period then added his second — the eventual game-winner — less than two minutes later, shorthanded. Lee scored his final goal, another one shorthanded, as the final seconds expired in the third period.

Carsen Musser, Fairmont. The freshman goaltender has been kept busy early on this season, facing 43 or more shots in each of the first four games he's played. On Dec. 3, the Cardinals defeated Minnesota River 3-2 as Musser made 61 saves for the win. Then on Dec. 7, Musser stopped 40 of 43 shots as the Cardinals lost to Breckenridge/Wahpeton 4-2.

Joe Palodichuk, Hill-Murray. The junior defenseman tallied nine points in two games for the Pioneers, in wins against Simley (8-0) on Dec. 5 and Blake (7-1) on Dec. 7. Palodichuk scored a pair of second-period goals and added two assists in the win against Simley. He recorded four assists, including two on the power play, against Blake before scoring a power-play goal in the final seconds of the third period.
