Top performer candidates

Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth, Rochester Century. The junior forward spearheaded a nine-point effort by the Panthers on Dec. 20 with two assists and a season-high five goals in a 9-1 triumph over Albert Lea. He tallied four points on special teams — one power-play goal, one shorthanded goal, and two power-play assists.

Blake Biondi, Hermantown. Biondi scored a season-high four goals and added one assist in the Hawks’ 6-1 victory over Duluth Denfeld on Dec. 17. Biondi, a senior forward, tallied three consecutive goals within 12 minutes and added his final goal on the power play.

Dylan Cook, Princeton. The junior forward erupted for eight points in the Tigers’ 13-0 rout of Cambridge-Isanti on Dec. 17, a total bested just once in the state’s history, according to the Minnesota State High School League, when New Prague’s Schuyler Adams tallied nine points in 2009. Cook scored twice and added six assists, including a helper on a power play.

Caden Frahm, St. Paul Highland Park. Frahm led the Scots’ 3-2 overtime victory at Mora/Milaca on Dec. 17, making 46 saves for a .958 save percentage in over 57 minutes of playing time. Frahm, a junior, and the Scots were a perfect 8-for-8 on penalty kills, including one early in overtime.

Adler Hoagland, Northern Lakes. The junior goaltender faced 85 total shots during two games last week, a 3-2 loss to Little Falls on Dec. 17 and a 3-2 victory over Princeton on Dec. 21. Hoagland posted a .941 save percentage between the two games.

Brock Larsen, Spring Lake Park. Larsen, a junior forward, led the Panthers’ 8-7 overtime win against River Falls on Dec. 17, scoring a season-high four goals and adding two assists. He recorded two of his goals and one assist on the power play during regulation, including a power-play marker with 28 seconds left in the third period to tie the game. Larsen scored the overtime game winner.

Layten Liffrig, Mankato East. The junior forward had three standout performances last week, leading the Cougars to wins against Albert Lea (7-1 on Dec. 17), Hutchinson (5-3 on Dec. 19), and Minnesota River (8-3 on Dec. 21). Liffrig mirrored his two goal-, two assist- performance at Albert Lea with the same stats against Hutchinson. He completed the week with a hat trick and two assists during the win at Minnesota River.

Tyler McCarville, Hastings. The junior goalie was busy in net during the Raiders’ 3-2 defeat of East Ridge on Dec. 21, making 53 saves — more than double his previous season high — and recording a .964 save percentage.

Soren Pederson, Shakopee. Pederson recorded his second perfect game of the season as he and the Sabers shut out Minneapolis 3-0 on Dec. 17. The junior goaltender made a season-high 32 saves, helping the Sabers break a five-game winless streak.
