Top games: Storied rivalry between Warroad and Roseau intensifies with added luster

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.






Other games to keep an eye on

Cretin-Derham Hall vs. Stillwater, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7. Matthew Gleason, tied for fourth in the state in scoring with 38 points and another Mr. Hockey frontrunner, leads No. 9-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (9-3-0, 6-3-0) against Stillwater (8-1-0, 6-0-0) in a battle of top Suburban East Conference teams.

Rochester Century vs. Owatonna, 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9. Led by senior Joey Malugani’s 17 goals, Rochester Century (10-2-1, 5-0-0) ranks fifth in the state in scoring with 72 goals as it heads toward a showdown with Big 9 Conference rival Owatonna (9-2-0, 4-0-0) and standout senior goaltender Zach Wiese (.929 save percentage).

Mankato West vs. Mankato East, 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7. High-scoring senior defenseman Nathan Looft of Mankato West (7-6-0, 3-3-0) and standout forward Latyen Liffrig (team-best 13 goals) of Mankato East (5-7-1, 2-1-0) provide plenty of star power to this intracity rivalry game.
