Top performer winner

Spencer Klotz, Northfield. Klotz filled the score sheet in the Raiders’ 5-4 win against Mankato West on Jan. 4, recording points in each period. The sophomore forward, who has recorded 12 points in the Raiders’ last five games, tallied his third four-point performance of the season in the win, scoring twice and adding two goals. He scored in the first and third periods and added two second period assists, including one on the power play.

Top performer candidates

Patrick Anderson, Minnehaha Academy. The sophomore backed the Redhawks’ second win of the season as he faced the most shots his team has given up this season. Anderson made 60 saves, posting a .938 save percentage, as the Redhawks edged St. Paul Academy 5-4 in an overtime win on Jan. 2. Anderson hung on through the entire overtime, as the Redhawks scored the winning goal with just one second left in the extra time.

Jackson Fields, Detroit Lakes. Fields, a senior forward, produced his first multi-goal game of the season as he led the Lakers to a 5-2 victory against Crookston on Jan. 3. Fields assisted on two first-period goals to give the Lakers an early lead. With the Lakers leading 3-2 after two periods, Fields followed up with a power play goal early in the third period to double the Lakers’ lead before scoring with 33 seconds left to seal the win.

Carson Jacobs, Bloomington Jefferson. The senior forward contributed four points in the Jaguars’ 6-2 defeat of Hastings on Dec. 30 — the sixth time this season he’s had a multi-point game and the fourth game in a row contributing three or more points. Jacobs assisted on the Jaguars’ second goal of the game, a power play tally, and scored three goals, including once on a power play. Then during the Jaguars’ 6-3 loss to Eagan on Dec. 31, Jacobs assisted on all three goals, extending his multi-point streak to five games.

Elijah Kaasa, Irondale. The junior goaltender was perfect through 48 minutes, 30 seconds of the Knights’ 4-1 win against White Bear Lake on Jan. 2, giving up his only goal of the game late in the third period. Kaasa made 39 saves in the win for a .975 save percentage as he and the Knights avenged a 10-1 loss to White Bear Lake on Nov. 23 and handed the Bears their first loss of the season.

Konrad Kausch, Duluth East. After giving up an early goal, Kausch bounced back and remained perfect the rest of the game to allow the Greyhounds to come from behind for a 2-1 victory. The senior goaltender made 43 saves, a season high, for a .977 save percentage as the Greyhounds defeated Minnetonka on Jan. 4.

Zack Simon, Orono. The senior forward produced a season-high six points (three goals, three assists) as the Spartans defeated Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Jan. 3. After assisting on the Spartan’s second goal of the game, Simon scored back-to-back goals early in the second period, within 31 seconds of each other.  He finished his night with a short-handed assist, a regular assist, and short-handed goal to lead the Spartan offense. Simon is averaging 2.85 points per game.

Grant Slukynsky, Warroad. The senior forward, who’s averaging 3.85 points per game, easily surpassed that average during a 10-1 rout of Detroit Lakes, tallying nine points in the win. According to the Minnesota State High School League, that total has been reached just one other time in state history, when New Prague’s Schuyler Adams did so in 2009. Slukynsky tallied four goals and a season-high five assists. One goal and one assist were each on the power play.

Matthew Thompson, Park of Cottage Grove. The senior forward tallied a season-high four points in the Wolfpack’s 5-3 win at Mounds View on Jan. 4. Thompson assisted on the Wolfpack’s first goal on the power play and recorded his first hat trick of the season.

Carter Wostrel, Champlin Park. The sophomore goaltender earned his second shutout of the season — both by scores of 1-0 — and fifth win as he made 37 saves to lead the Rebels to victory against Burnsville on Jan. 2.
