Top performer candidates

Josie Bothun, Forest Lake. The senior goaltender, playing in her second season on the Rangers’ boys team, backed a 1-1 tie against Stillwater on Jan. 11, making 41 saves — 25 more than her opposing goaltender. Bothun boasts a 1.23 goals against average and .940 save percentage through six appearances in net this season.

Jack Campion, Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper. The senior forward tallied 10 points during two Wings’ victories last week as they outscored opponents 15-2. Campion led the team’s offense at Minnehaha Academy on Jan. 7, scoring once and adding four assists as the Wings won 8-1. Against Coon Rapids on Jan. 9, Campion recorded his first hat trick of the season and added two assists.

Ben Dardis, Mahtomedi. Dardis, a sophomore goaltender, faced a season-high 59 shots as the Zephyrs defeated Hill-Murray 3-2 on Jan. 11. He posted a .966 save percentage in his 11th win this season.

Jack Doda, Crookston. The freshman forward had a breakout game on Jan. 9, exploding for six points during the Pirates’ 6-2 win at Park Rapids — their first win of the season. Doda led the Pirates’ 3-for-5 power play, notching two goals and one assist with the advantage. He added one short-handed goal as well as one goal and one assist at even strength.

Blake Frider, Hibbing/Chisholm. Frider recorded his second multi-point game of the year at the perfect time, leading the Bluejackets’ 7-6 victory against North Shore on Jan. 9. The junior forward accounted for four goals, including one on a power play, and two assists to lead the Bluejackets to their second win of the season.

Luc Laylin, St. Michael-Albertville. The senior forward produced back-to-back four-point performances, leading the Knights’ offense during a 5-5 tie against Edina and 5-4 overtime victory against Wayzata last week. Against Edina, Laylin scored two first period goals, including one on the power play, and added an assist and his final goal to complete a hat trick in the third period. Against Wayzata, Laylin scored once and added three assists, one on a power play and one short-handed.

Carsen Musser, Fairmont. The goaltender continued his busy freshman season, facing 100 shots between two games last week — a 2-1 loss to Worthington and 6-3 win at Morris/Benson Area — for a .950 save percentage on the week. Musser has seen 43 or more shots in every game he’s played in this season (14 games).

Luke Olson, Ely. The senior forward had a game for the record books, scoring eight goals to lead the Timberwolves to their first win this season, a 10-1 rout of WSFLG (Wis.) on Jan. 10. Olson’s eight goals is the most scored in a game since Warroad’s Max Oshie scored 12 goals in 1948, according to the Minnesota State High School League. Olson added one assist.

William Pinney, St. Louis Park. The senior goaltender backed the Orioles’ 4-2 win against Holy Angels on Jan. 9, the team’s only game last week, making 39 saves for a .951 save percentage. The win was Pinney’s ninth of the season.
