Top performer winner

Elliot Van Orsdel, Eveleth-Gilbert. Van Orsdel contributed his second four-point effort in three games and extended his points streak to six games as the Golden Bears defeated Greenway 4-3 in overtime on Jan. 16. The senior forward assisted on a power-play goal late in the second period to temporarily tie the game at 1-1. Then in the third period after Greenway had scored twice early in the period Van Orsdel set up two Golden Bear goals — one on a power play — with assists on a pair of goals within 1 minute, 4 seconds of each other, shortly after Greenway’s goals. In the overtime, Van Orsdel scored the winner.

Top performer candidates

Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth, Rochester Century. The junior forward tallied six points in the Panthers’ 7-2 victory at Mankato East on Jan. 16. He scored three goals, including one short-handed, and added three assists and is averaging 2.62 points per game this season.

Hunter Burian, Princeton. Burian faced 96 shots between two games last week — a 2-1 loss at Monticello and a 7-3 victory against Pine City Area. The senior goaltender made 49 saves for a .961 save percentage at Monticello, then stopped 42 shots during the win against Pine City Area.

Shane Donovan, Northern Lakes. The senior forward produced back-to-back multi-point games, leading the Lightning to road wins at Mora/Milaca and Park Rapids. The Lightning won 5-2 at Mora/Milaca on Jan. 14, as Donovan scored once and tallied two power-play assists. Then at Park Rapids on Jan. 16, he scored twice and added four assists to lead the Lightning to a 10-3 win. One goal and one assist were on the power play.

Cole Hansen, Blaine. Hansen tallied an impressive eight points during the Bengals’ 15-1 rout of Spring Lake Park on Jan. 14. The senior forward had six points in the first period alone. One of his assists was short-handed and two were on the power play.

Elijah Kaasa, Irondale. The Knights needed the junior goaltender to be near perfect as their offense produced two goals, and perfect he was — stopping all 32 shots he faced. The Knights defeated Park of Cottage Grove 2-0 on Jan. 16. The shutout was Kaasa's first of the season and snapped a three-game losing streak for the Knights.

Cole Sitar, South St. Paul. The sophomore goaltender faced 43 shots, his second highest total this season, and posted a .977 save percentage while allowing just one goal in the Packers’ 4-1 defeat of Tartan on Jan. 16. Sitar boasts a .934 save percentage through seven games this season.

Jake Turek, North Branch. The senior goaltender made 49 saves, allowing three goals — a .942 save percentage — in the Vikings’ 6-3 win against Gentry Academy on Jan. 16. It was Turek's 12th win of the season.

Charlie Weick, Minnesota River. The senior forward led the Bulldogs to two wins last week, recording six total points in wins over Fairmont (5-1 on Jan. 14) and Windom (5-0 on Jan. 16). Weick helped the Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead after the first period against Fairmont, assisting on the game’s first goal and scoring short-handed later in the period. He tallied his last point with just over one minute left in the second period with a short-handed assist. Against Windom, Weick tallied a first-period assist and then scored back-to-back goals, including once on a power play, in the third period.

Joseph Workman, Bloomington Kennedy. After recording six points during the Eagles’ first 14 games, the junior forward had a breakout week, tallying six points during a 10-1 victory against Rochester Lourdes on Jan. 14 and four points in a 5-4 overtime win at Chanhassen on Jan. 16. Against Rochester Lourdes, Workman had completed a hat trick — including one goal on a power play — less than 12 minutes into the game and tallied an assist later in the period. He scored his final goal of the game midway through the second period and added a final assist in the third. At Chanhassen, he notched a power-play goal in the first period and an assist in the second before tallying two goals in the third period.
