Top performer candidates

Blake Biondi, Hermantown. The senior forward produced his second eight-point effort of the season during the Hawks’ 10-3 win at St. Cloud on Feb. 6. Biondi recorded a hat trick and added five assists. He scored once on a power play and once short-handed and tallied one assist on the power play. Two days earlier, as the Hawks defeated Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl 10-0, Biondi recorded four consecutive points, scoring twice and adding two assists, including one on a power play.

Damon Furuseth, Gentry Academy. The junior forward led the Stars’ three-win week, as the Stars outscored their opponents 21-4 during those games. At Mankato East to start the week on Feb. 4, Furuseth recorded five points, scoring once and adding four assists as the Stars won 7-2. Two assists were on power plays. On Feb. 6, the Stars blanked Simley 5-0 as Furuseth recorded his first hat trick in nearly a month. The Stars finished the week with a 9-2 win at Coon Rapids, where Furuseth tallied two goals, including one on the power play, and two assists.

Zak Kennett, Red Lake Falls. The state’s leader in assists (56) and points (95) and second-leading scorer (39), Kennett added to his impressive points totals during the Eagles' 10-4 victory against Park Rapids on Feb. 4. The junior forward scored two goals and tied his season high with six assists, recording a season high of eight points. He tallied assists on three consecutive Eagles' power-play goals, within just over 3 minutes during the second period. His final assist was short-handed.

Konrad Kausch, Duluth East. The senior goaltender recorded his second consecutive 45-save effort, posting a .978 save percentage as the Greyhounds defeated Maple Grove 2-1 on Feb. 7. Kausch gave up his lone goal late in the first period and stopped all of the remaining 37 shots he faced during the second and third periods.

Ethan Lund, Hibbing/Chisholm. Lund factored into all of the Bluejackets’ goals, tying a season high with five points as they edged Eveleth-Gilbert 5-4 in overtime on Feb. 6. Lund assisted on the Bluejackets’ first goal in the first period, but the Bluejackets found themselves trailing by two goals after two periods. Lund then added two more assists, including one on a power play, and scored a goal all within less than 6 minutes during the third period. Tied at the end of three, Lund assisted on the overtime game winner.

Tim Pundt, Rochester Century. The senior goaltender backed the Panthers’ 2-1 win against Owatonna, making 42 saves for a .977 save percentage as he earned his 17th win of the season. It was Pundt's third consecutive and ninth overall game this season allowing just one goal.

Jack Pojar, Osseo. The junior forward tallied season highs in goals and points as the Orioles defeated Minnehaha Academy 8-6. He scored four goals — one in each of the first two periods followed by two in the third. His final goal, scored with just under 5 minutes remaining, was on a power play and would stand as the eventual game-winner. With the win, Pojar overtook the team lead in goals as he now has 14 on the season.

Caleb Strong, Alexandria. The senior forward produced three-point efforts on back-to-back nights, leading the Cardinals to wins at Fergus Falls and against Little Falls. At Fergus Falls on Feb. 3, Strong scored the game’s opening goal during the first period and assisted on a power-play goal later in the period. After Fergus Falls came back to tie the game, Strong scored the overtime goal to win 4-3. The next night Strong scored three of the Cardinals’ four goals, including one on a power play, to lead the 4-0 triumph.
