Andover, Warroad get top seeds for boys' hockey tournament

The No. 1 Huskies, in the program's first state appearance, open play against St. Thomas Academy in Class 2A while the Warriors will play Hutchinson in the 1A quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Andover drew the top seed in the Class 2A boys’ hockey tournament next week at Xcel Energy Center while Warroad received the No. 1 seed in Class 1A.

The seedings and pairings were announced Saturday morning.

Here are the matchups:

Class 2A quarterfinals, Thursday

Maple Grove vs No. 2 Blake, 11 a.m.
Lakeville South vs No. 3 Eden Prairie, 1 p.m.
St. Thomas Academy vs No. 1 Andover, 6 p.m.
No. 5 Hill-Murray vs No. 4 Moorhead, 8 p.m.

Class 1A quarterfinals, Wednesday

Mankato East vs No. 2 St. Cloud Cathedral, 11 a.m
Monticello vs No. 3 Hermantown, 1 p.m.
Hutchinson vs No. 1 Warroad, 6 p.m.
No. 5 Delano vs No . 4 Mahtomedi, 8 p.m.

Semifinals in both classes are Friday. Championship games are Saturday at noon for Class 1A and 7 p.m. for Class 2A.
