Top performer winner

Will Kunka, Moorhead. The senior goaltender faced a season-high 43 shots yet gave up a season-low one goal in the Spuds' 1-1 tie with Warroad on Jan. 30. Kunka nearly finished the game with a shutout, giving up the lone goal as time expired in the third period and posting a .977 save percentage.

Top performer candidates

Jackson Blake, Eden Prairie. The junior forward led the Eagles’ offense during back-to-back wins last week, tallying a point on nearly all of the team's offense as they outscored their opponents by a combined total of 11-1. At Buffalo on Jan. 28, Blake recorded a shorthanded goal and had three assists as the Eagles won 5-1. Two nights later, Blake tallied two goals and three assists in the Eagles’ 6-0 shutout of Holy Family Catholic.

Nick Erickson, Hill-Murray. The junior goaltender earned two shutouts against Edina on back-to-back nights. On Jan. 29, Erickson made 25 saves to earn a 1-0 home shutout. The next night, he turned aside 34 shots at Edina for a 3-0 Pioneers' victory.

Jack Kleinschmidt, Rochester Lourdes. After entering their Jan. 29 matchup against Minnehaha Academy undefeated, the Eagles found themselves in a 5-0 deficit late in the second period. Kleinschmidt recorded the Eagles’ first goal with less than two minutes remaining in the second period to get the Eagles on the board. In the third period, he scored two power-play goals within the first four minutes. After a teammate brought them to within one goal mid-way through the third period, Kleinschmidt scored his fourth goal of the night before the game ended in a 5-5 tie.

Caden Morgan, Breck. The sophomore defenseman  provided the spark the Mustangs’ offense needed to lead their 5-4 overtime victory. Morgan assisted on a power-play goal early in the first period to give the Mustangs an early edge. After three Minneapolis goals put the Mustangs down 3-1, Morgan tallied two second-period assists, including one on a power play. As the Mustangs found themselves in their first overtime game this season, Morgan found a final push, netting the game-winning goal in the win.
