OT goal spells defeat for BSM despite Schumacher's 31-save effort.

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Each team launched 33 shots on goal but it was St. Thomas' only shot of overtime, which came on the power play, that spelled the difference as the Cadet junior varsity handed Benilde-St. Margaret's a 2-1 defeat.

The game was scoreless for nearly 28 minutes before the hosts scored with two minutes, 13 seconds to play in the second period.

Despite being out-shot, 11-6, in the third period, the Red Knights struck for the only goal of the frame when Quinn Schliesman won a faceoff in the right circle of the offensive zone.

After pushing the puck forward, he collected his own faceoff win and centered the puck to Gino Gatti for a tap-in goal on the backside.

However, despite holding a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal in the first 93 seconds of overtime, a tripping penalty resulted in a Cadet power play and they converted just 18 seconds into the man-advantage.

Sam Schumacher suffered his first loss of the season despite his career-best 31-save outing.

BSM will wrap up the season next week with three games in four days, beginning with Monday's 5 p.m. game versus Holy Angels at Richfield Arena.

Sam Schumacher kept BSM in the game with a career-best 31 save effort.
