Top games: Unbeatens Maple Grove, Lakeville South meet in monster late-season matchup

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.




Other games to keep an eye on

Hill-Murray vs. St. Thomas Academy, 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 9. No. 5-2A Hill-Murray (14-2-0), one of the state’s hottest big-school teams with nine straight wins, including five shutouts, can avenge one of its losses in its matchup against Metro East Conference rival No. 7-2A St. Thomas Academy (10-2-3), which boasts NHL draft pick Jackson Hallum.

Grand Rapids vs. Wayzata, 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 13. Senior defenseman Jack Peart leads No. 4-2A Grand Rapids (12-1-0) in its north-versus-south showdown against Lake Conference powerhouse Wayzata (9-5-1).

Kittson Central vs. Red Lake Falls, 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 9. The high-scoring Kennett brothers, Zak and Ty, lead Red Lake Falls (11-3-0) against Kittson Central (10-2-1) and the Hennens, Tyler and Hayden, in a matchup between Northwest Conference rivals.
