Top performer winner

Mitchell Nemec, International Falls. The Broncos (6-11-1) battled Greenway to a 0-0 overtime tie on March 11, backed by the senior goaltender’s second shutout of the season. Nemec made 51 saves and bolstered the Broncos’ 3-for-3 penalty kill en route to the draw.

Top performer candidates

Casey Johnson, Owatonna. Johnson led the Huskies’ 9-1 rout of Red Wing on March 10 as he tallied season highs with three goals and four assists for seven points. The senior forward recorded one goal and one assist on power plays and leads the Huskies (12-4-1) with 22 assists and 30 points this season.

Blake Lueck, Spring Lake Park. The Panthers (6-12-0) earned their first back-to-back wins of the season last week, outscoring opponents by a combined score of 14-4 thanks, in part, to Lueck’s 10 points. At Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper on March 11, Lueck notched three goals and an assist to lead the Panthers' 5-3 victory. The junior forward recorded his second consecutive hat trick in a 9-1 defeat of Coon Rapids on March 13, adding three assists to record his third six-point game of the season.

Kade Nielsen, Burnsville. The senior forward produced his fourth five-point effort in as many weeks on March 11, extending his team-leading goals (27) and points (46) totals. Nielsen tallied two goals and two assists in regulation as the Blaze (8-10-0) and Shakopee were tied through three periods. Nielsen wasn’t done there, as he scored the game-winning goal to secure his hat trick just over five minutes into the extra period, lifting the Blaze to a 6-5 overtime win.

Garrett Schifsky, Andover. The Andover (15-2-1) senior recorded points on all but one of the Huskies’ 10 goals during wins against Blaine and Centennial last week. Schifsky tallied four points against Blaine on March 11, scoring twice and adding two assists in the 4-1 victory. In the Huskies’ 6-0 win at Centennial two nights later, Schifsky scored four consecutive goals, all before the five-minute mark of the second period, including two on power plays. He added an assist on the game’s final goal midway through the third period.
