Section semifinal Saturday: Wins set up battle of Lakeville, top seed Cretin-Derham Hall falls

A recap of select games from around the metro area.

Second-seeded Lakeville North scored two goals in the final three minutes to defeat visiting third-seeded Owatonna 2-0 in a Class 2A, Section 1 semifinal.

Ben Monson broke the scoreless tie with 2:09 left. Kyle Doll scored an empty-net goal with eight seconds left to seal the victory for the Panthers.

Lakeville North goaltender Skylar Vetter and the Huskies’ Preston Meier made 17 saves each.

In the section's other semifinal game, Cade Ahrenholz scored two goals to help top-seeded Lakeville South defeat visiting fourth-seeded Hastings 7-1.

Ben Portner had two goals and an assist, Cam Boche had one goal and three assists, Tanner Ludtke had a goal and an assist, Mason Johnson had two assists, Brett Johnson had a goal and Cody Ticen made 17 saves for the Cougars. Tyler McCarville made 34 saves and Jake Harris scored a goal for the Raiders.

Class 2A, Section 2
Luke Mittelstadt scored a goal and had three assists to lead top-seeded Eden Prairie past visiting fourth-seeded Holy Family 6-0. Drew Holt scored two goals, Mason Langenbrunner had one goal and two assists, Kam Langefels had one goal and one assist, Oliver Jorgensen had a goal and Zach Hayes made 23 saves for the Eagles. Jack Olson made 22 saves for the Fire.

Class 2A, Section 4: Jackson Kohnen made 22 saves, including 10 in the third period, to help second-seeded White Bear Lake defeat visiting third-seeded Mounds View 3-2. Aiden Welch, Max Hamstad and Brady Borgestad scored for the Bears. Ryan Collins scored two goals for the Mustangs.

Class 2A, Section 6
Fourth-seeded Benilde-St. Margaret’s scored three goals in the third period to pull away from host and top seed Cretin-Derham Hall 4-0. Carson Limesand made 42 saves, including 22 in the third period, to earn the shutout for the Red Knights. Asher Connelly, Tristan Sarsland, Brady Yakesh and Jackson Bisson scored for the Red Knights. Marko Belak made 26 saves for the Raiders.

In the section's other semifinal game, Jake Schneider had two goals and two assists to lead second-seeded Wayzata past third-seeded Edina 8-2. Dylan Lewis had two goals and an assist. Reece Gardner and Gavin O’Connell had a goal and an assist each, Drew Streeter and Max McCollins each scored a goal and Will Ingemann had 21 saves for the Trojans. John Devoe and AJ Doll scored a goal each and Robbie Clarkowski made 20 saves for the Hornets.

Class 2A, Section 7
Jack Peart scored a goal and added two assists to lead top-seeded Grand Rapids past fourth-seeded Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 4-0.  Zach Tyman made 45 saves for the Lumberjacks.

In the other semifinal game, second-seeded Andover cruised past visiting fifth-seeded Elk River/Zimmerman 7-3. Logan Gravink led the Huskies with two goals and two assists. Gavyn Thoreson, Garrett Schifsky and Ethan Lindahl had one goal and one assist each. Jacob Pierson and Cooper Conway scored a goal each and Will Larson made 19 saves. Reilly Eason made 30 saves and Joe Greniuk, Blake Johnson and Cayden Casey had a goal each for the Elks. 

Class 2A, Section 8
Max Strand scored 3:35 into the second overtime to give top-seeded Roseau a 4-3 victory over visiting fourth-seeded Rogers. Paul Huglen scored two goals for the Rams and Kellen Murphy had one. Tanner Weis, Chase Chelslock and Miken Miller scored for the Royals.

Class 1A, Section 2
Beau Courneya scored with 5:28 left in the third period to put top-seeded Breck ahead for good over visiting fourth-seeded Minneapolis 5-3. Courneya and Jake Silverman finished with one goal and two assists each, Jake Hanson had two goals and one assist, Cade Berman had two assists, Zach Sinople scored a goal and Dylan Halliwill made 23 saves. For Minneapolis, Jack Hanson had one goal and two assists, Zander Zoia had one goal and one assist, Jack Stock scored a goal and Alex Lamont made 22 saves.

Class 1A, Section 5
Gavin Brooks scored in the second overtime to give top-seeded Monticello a 3-2 victory over visiting fourth-seeded Chisago Lakes.

In the other semifinal game, second-seeded Northern Lakes jumped out a big lead and cruised to a 7-1 victory over sixth-seeded Pine City. Tyler Seeling had two goals and one assist, Hunter Nybakken had one goal and one assist, Colton Craig and Erik Larsen had two assists each and Carter Holtzleicer, Darby Boelter, Kyler Couture and Andrew Villarreal had one goal each for the Lightning. Mason Olson made 21 saves and Aidan Welch scored a goal for the Dragons.
